Why
donate to us?
The Welfare Service Society does
not receive any funding from the Community Chest of
Singapore and depends solely on contribution from the
public and the community. Unlike most charities, the
Nam Hong Welfare Service Society does not have a huge
sinking fund. Currently, the Welfare Service Society¡¯s
bank deposits is sufficient to cover the cost only for
the next 3 months. Hence, the Welfare Service Society
has to constantly struggle to meet operational costs,
and the committee members have to work really hard to
raise funds just to cover cost for each coming month.
More information about the charity and donation can
be found at this website www.nhwelfare.org
However,
the committee members have never given up hope, and
have decided to work even harder in the current difficult
economic conditions to continue to provide free medical
treatment to the old and needy. This is one of the key
reasons the committee members has decided to raise funds
through the Charity Run. It is only with the Charity
Run that the Welfare Service Society can appeal to more
organisations and people out of the community to contribute
generously to us, all in the hope, that the Welfare
Service Society can continue to provide free treatment
to the needy and old.
How will we make use of
your donation?
We seek to manage all funds raised as effectively and
as transparent as possible. Financial reports can be
found at our website www.nhwelfare.org.
We focus on 3 critical aspects of helping the needy
to lead a life with basic respect ¨C Medical care, Education,
and Food.
Free Medical Care
- Currently, the main bulk of the funds raised are used
in serving the elderly, sick and needy through Nam Hong
Free Medical Centre. With fully utilized staff strength
of 6 Physicians and 6 Support Staff, coupled with the
rising cost of medicine, Nam Hong Welfare Service Society
spent about $500,000/- to run the Free Medical Centre
last year to care for 33,000 patients and that is expected
to rise even further this year with the increasing number
of people seeking help. This translates to an average
of $15 as cost for each patient, of which about $7 is
used to cover the cost of manpower, and about $5 to
cover the cost of medicine. The remaining $3 is spent
on the operational cost of running the centre. The Free
Medical Centre only receives $2 registration fees each
time a patient is treated. The rest of the expenses
are borne by Nam Hong Welfare Service Society.
Education
- We use your donations to provide bursaries, scholarships
mainly to the needy. With education, we hope the next
generation of the needy is able to equip themselves
to get out of poverty.
Food
¨C We use your donations to provide dry ration to the
needy. We distribute about 500 sets of dry rations each
year, and seek to do more for the needy, if more funds
are available.
